STATISTICS
As of the 31st August, 2007 there were 338 children under 18 in Somerset (158), Hunterdon (39), and Warren (141) Counties who were removed from their parents' care.
These children were removed for a number of reasons, including abandonment, abuse/neglect, parental drug/alcohol abuse, financial problems, inadequate housing, parental incarceration, mental disability, and physical disability.
Of these 338 children, only 79 have been able to benefit from the services of a CASA volunteer due to a lack of resources. Plans are currently underway for CASA SHaW to expand into Hunterdon County by January 2009. The Warren County Office is now open and has begun offering advocacy services to the 141 children in need there.
